Driving to Aluminess and Diving at La Jolla

We took advantage of President’s Day weekend to drive to San Diego to get our roof rack and ladder installed. We pre-ordered them a couple months prior from Aluminess and shortly after that installed the Mercedes factory c rails. Instead of having it all sent to us by carrier and paying for shipping, we decided to take the van South for a first road trip. As we love scuba diving, we packed all our gear and ended up diving in La Jolla, near San Diego the day before we got everything installed.

It was really enjoyable driving from the harbor to Aluminess next to the coastline and through Los Angeles with Betsy. And despite spending a night at a rest stop sleeping on our wet suits because we didn’t get it together soon enough to book a hotel room (on a three day weekend) it was a great first taste of the vanlife experience!
